2001-11-22 - 6:18 p.m.

i just got back from austin. i love how that thick, slow feeling of bordom waits for me at the door of my house.

i had an interesting time. have you ever seen that movie "mi familia" i think that is what it is called. that is what my thanksgiving was like.

i ate with this massive hispanic family with what seemed like an endless amount of cousins and such.

they even had the first generation old people who spoke absolutely no english what so ever.

i think in my entire life that is the mast true to the way families are in the movies. not the wealthy ones but the ones where they spend every holiday together and have never know what it is like to truly have a sense of privacy.

oddly enough my cynical ways did not keep me from socializing and in general just being a bitter grumpy guy.

i usually am during family events since i have never had what most people would call a family.

they lived in an incredibly small town just outside austin. driving around made me feel like i traveled back in time. since they are all roman catholic i picked up some nifty decorating ideas.

one day i am going to buy a house with several rooms and decorate each room to mimic a certain time period that way you can walk through the house and feel like you are walking through time.

another funny thing when driving the dirt roads passing farms i would see houses that were built in the twenties in the middle of a large plot of land. the houses looked incredibly old but on the side of each one was a satilite dish. it was an odd mix of technology. donkey drawn plows and a satilite dish.

i have never seen so many donkeys in my life.

the actually dinner was odd the oldest woman there who was the beginning of the rest on the family looked to be atleast one hundred years old picked me to sit next to and talk to. it was hard to understand hre since her mastery of english was not that great so i had to talk slow and so did she.

after that i hid in the back room and watched two hours of a buffy marathon with one of the six million cousins.

i guess it was yet another much needed culture lesson.
