i have recently been thinking about my sick obsession with the television show cheers i think it is funny because it is the single most depressing show on television.

this show takes place entirely in a bar. they never leave. they sit and drink in a dark room and talk about their problems.

then you have a cast of humanity rejects.

the owner of the bar "sam malone" is a recovering alcoholic who for some reason decides to run a bar. smart move guy.

carla" is the waitress who has six kids with no father to give her money so she raises them all on a barmaid's salary.

"cliff clavin" is a fourty-something mailman who is alone and lives with his mother. the episode where cliff gets a girlfriend is by far the most sad episode ever.

"norm"is an overweight middle aged man who can not hold a job for longer than a month. he is in a failed marriage with a woman he seems to hate so he faithfully shows up at his neighborhood bar every night no forget his shitty life.

"woody" is a small town boy who moved to the big city for god knows what reason and ends up poor working at a bar. he' too dumb to work anywhere else.
